Meet the Sustainable Energie Partners team

Executive Team

Rafael Cidón, Partner

Rafael has 25 years experience in the development and management of infrastructure and renewable energy projects with independent energy specialists in Europe and Latam.

Rafael’s relevant experience includes:

  • Leading the team in developing solar PV projects in Spain, initially under RD661 and now RD1578. Rafael’s experience in site selection, permitting and approvals has enabled a large portfolio of development projects to be assembled.
  • Co-founded Actua Asset Management and was the inaugural Managing Director and member of the Investment Committee. He was responsible for overall strategy, investments, finance, and investor relations. Rafael devised financial models for project analysis and developments. He was responsible for operational management of plants, deal origination, negotiation and due diligence.
  • Independent energy consultant in Spain.

Rafael graduated in Business Administration (BSBA) in Marketing & Finance from Suffolk University, Boston, USA and completed the Advanced Management Program at I.E. in Madrid.

Rafael is a registered member of the Chicago Stock Exchange, Brokers License, Series 3 (Commodities Market – Futures & Options) and registered member of Series 6 (Life & Variable Annuities).

Sam Nandra, Vice President

Sam is an experienced corporate financier and has advised on energy projects in Europe, India, China and Africa.

He trained as an accountant and has practiced as a financier in the renewable energy and technology sectors for 10 years. He held marketing, operational and financial roles with Centrica Energy, Berlesmann Ventures, Sony and Procter & Gamble. His relevant experience includes:

  • Sourcing and review of solar parks.
  • Analysis of optimal investment structures.
  • Working with clients to define successful financing strategies.
  • Capital raising ( debt & equity) & project finance.
  • Supporting the transaction process.
  • Business & financial modelling.
  • Renewable project due diligence work in UK, India, China.

Sam is a graduate, qualified accountant and has post graduate training from WBS (EMBA) and the ICAEW (Certificate in Corporate Finance).

Stephen Mathews, Partner, Sustainable Energie Partners Asset Management (AM)

Stephen has 12 years experience in the development of renewable energy projects in the UK, USA, Italy, and France ranging in size from 3.6 MW to 26 MW. His responsibilities included approvals, equipment selection, EPC tenders and construction management.

Stephen is developing and constructing solar PV projects with long term PPAs in partnership with SEP’s established European partners.

Stephen holds a Degree in Business Administration.

Frederich Nurckiss, Manager

Frederich has 9 years experience in financial analysis of renewable energy developments in Western Europe particularly Germany and France.

Frederich’s relevant experience includes:

  • Sourcing and review of solar parks.
  • Analysis of optimal investment structures.
  • Working with clients to define successful financing strategies.
  • Capital raising ( debt & equity) & project finance.
  • Supporting the transaction process.
  • Business & financial modelling.
  • Assessment of wind and solar generating plants in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and SSE.
  • Structuring of debt for solar and wind parks.

Frederick holds a Bachelor of Actuarial Science.

Martin Brocke, Engineering Analyst

Martin has 7 years experience in the financial assessment of energy projects.

Martin’s relevant experience includes:

  • Financial modelling of renewable and conventional energy projects.
  • Preparation of detailed financial reports on energy projects.
  • Assessment of financial returns from various projects.
  • Preparation of bank models.

Martin holds a Bachelor of Science and an MBA.

Advisory Board

Leonard Seelig

Leonard has over 25 years experience in banking in the US and Europe with major international banks.  He began his career as an agricultural lender in Texas, becoming a corporate banker specialising in energy and media telecoms. In 1997, he was made Managing Director of Nations Bank for Europe.

Leonard has advised on business strategy, financial structuring and strategic planning for public companies. In addition, he directly assisted not-for-profit organisations involved in trans-frontier conservation projects and community development projects.

In 2009 he became actively involved in investing, advising and fund raising in renewable energy working with companies in solar, wind and AD.

Leonard is Chairman of APC Technology Group Plc., an AIM-listed energy efficiency company.

Leonard holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University in America.
 

David Shannon

David has 20 years experience in project evaluation and financing.

David  is a Chartered Accountant who has had extensive experience both as an international banker and professional accountant.

He has been a director of  Algemene Bank Nederlands (ABN) and Security Pacific National Bank and has held senior executive positions with Pittsburgh National Bank.

David’s particular expertise and interest is in Credit Management and Treasury Risk Management.  He has had extensive experience in lead managing syndicated loans and restructuring borrowings and has lectured at University on financial risk management.

David holds a Bachelor of Business and has completed numerous post-graduate courses.

 

Charles Magrib

Charles has 30 years experience in energy markets globally.

He has extensive experience in the development, due diligence, financing and management of conventional and renewable energy plants.

His role has been to work with developers in the late stage development of parks and secure them for investment.

Charles has spent most of his working life in Houston and Frankfurt as a consultant to large energy investors.

Current Opportunities

Legal Counsel

We require an experienced in-house legal counsel to undertake and manage all legal activities. The role will cover general corporate advice, EPC Contracts, JV Agreements, Framework Agreements, Sale and Purchase Agreements, Bank Loan Agreements, tax advice, and investment structuring.

The candidate will be an experienced negotiator and able to operate without supervision.

 

Financial Analyst

Sustainable Energie Partners is currently seeking an experienced financial analyst with specific experience in renewable energy and including solar PV. The successful candidate will have 5 or more years experience in the financial assessment of renewable energy and solar PV projects.

The candidate must have outstanding tertiary qualifications and be able to travel frequently in the EU. The candidate would be based in London or Madrid.
